Growing up in the North East I spent my weekends taking trips into Newcastle to spend my hard earned money (most likely in Space NK) and wander around finding new places to eat. So when Travelodge challenged me to pick the best places to go in Newcastle this gave me the perfect chance to jump on the train and find somewhere to eat cake, all in the name of blogging of course!
Newcastle is the perfect place for a weekend away with so many things to see and do, so today I’m sharing my top 3 places across the 3 different categories of attraction, drinks & food.
The Attraction. For the attraction category I went for the Quayside! There’s absolutely tons to do down there, whether it’s snapping pics of the famous Newcastle bridges, grabbing a bite to eat, listening to amazing music at the Sage or browsing the latest exhibition at the Baltic. Plenty to keep you busy for a day out in the Toon.
The Drinks. Now this might be cheating a little bit as I’m yet to make a visit to The Botanist myself but with views over Monument and Grey Street, super fancy looking drinks and some delicious looking food, I need to make a trip down there myself soon!
The Food. Here’s where it gets good, I’m talking cake! The Great British Cupcakery is the most quaint little cafe nestled down by the Quayside, serving the most delicious cakes. I took a trip there with my sister and her friend, we all went for the hot chocolate which was delicious, however we regretted not getting their new milkshakes as they looked beyond incredible. Cakes were of course ordered, and I can personally recommend both the victoria sponge and the chocolate & raspberry cupcake! With beautiful interior decor and a fab playlist on in the background, I could easily spend the whole afternoon there.
So there we have it, enough things to see, eat and drink to keep you busy while out on the Toon. Someone please take me back for a milkshake ASAP!
